Bug Description

When I adjust the brightness or volume using the keyboard media buttons during full screen video playback, the screen flickers. This happens in both Vlc and the default Videos application. Is there a fix for this? I am using ubuntu 15.04 with ati catalyst 15.20.
this doesnt happen when i am not using fullscreen playback. its probably associated with the notifications that come up on pressing the volume or brightness buttons.

WORKAROUND: Use the default radeon driver.

skt.diaz, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Does this issue occur if you use the default radeon driver?

By default radeon driver do you mean fglrx or the open source driver?

skt.diaz, default radeon driver means the one that is enabled by default in Ubuntu when one runs either a live environment or installed. Also, radeon and fglrx are two different drivers (open source versus closed).

Just to clarify, xorg.xserver, or in this case xorg-xserver-*, is not a graphics driver, but the core X server > https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server . Did you mean, you removed fglrx, and confirmed it doesn't happen with the default radeon driver?

Yes, this issue.doesn't occur when I am using the default radeon driver. I reinstalled ubuntu. Its now using the default driver and not fglrx.

The default driver though causes screen flickering at boot before the login screen comes up. I get a purple screen followed by white flickering. The ubuntu logo with progressing dots dont show up.

I have an Nvidia Graphics card and I have this problem, I have tried the official Nvidia driver, the one from software centre and the default one - all make the video flicker in full screen.

Neil Widdowson, to advise, this report has nothing to do with nvidia graphics cards.

Despite this, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.
