Bug Description

After upgrading from Precise to Trusty, I can no longer activate OpenGL desktop effects in KDE. Upon investigating, I find the following in the Xorg.log file:

[ 30.414] (EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed. Probably kernel module missing or incompatible.
[ 30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************************
[ 30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed *
[ 30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): * kernel module (fglrx.ko) may be missing or incompatible *
[ 30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): * 2D and 3D acceleration disabled *
[ 30.414] (WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************************

glxinfo returns:
name of display: :0
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 157 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13

and fglrxinfo returns:
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 157 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13

Purging fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle and reinstalling the driver doesn't fix anything. The previous driver on Ubuntu Precise worked fine (fglrx 12.104, if I recall).

Turns out fglrx was in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf for some reason. After removing it, the Catalyst driver works fine. Marking the bug as invalid.

Changed in fglrx-installer (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Thanks for the finding. Indeed mine was also found fglrx in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf. Not sure how it happened, cos I was upgrading from 11.04 > 11.10 > 12.04 > 14.04. Spent so much time to figure out this problem! :)
