Bug Description

I was on ubuntu 13.10 and was using manually installed amd beta graphics driver. Mfter y system has a hybrid Intel hd4400 and AMD Radeon 8670M graphics card. After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 it booted to black screen. On tty1 I tried to run fglrxinfo , it returned "Command not found"
Then I did
sudo apt-get -purge fglrx*
sudo reboot
after rebooting got the same problem
tried to install the same driver
using
sudo ./amd-driver-installer-13.35.1005-x86.x86_64.run
and followed the instruction, then got an error msg "installation failed"
tried manually building and installing, first it failed, then using Synaptic packet manager I fixed broken packages then tried to install , it installed , but on
sudo aticonfig --initial
it says unable to find command aticonfig
rebooted again and ran
fglrxinfo
again unable to find command.

For me even after installing fglrx on my system none of the associated commands such as aticonfig or fglrxinfo are running.
Even when i run them manually by going to /usr/lib/flgrx/bin they say there is no hardware.

how ever lspci lists my graphics card properly name

My status changed and came back around to hit me again.

I downloaded the drivers from AMD's website version 14.4 rev2 and installed it. It worked like a charm until I turned the switchable graphics into powersaving mode and rebooted my laptop and from then onward it never detects my hardware.

I have tried uninstalling and installing the same driver and my laptop starts in a low graphics mode

Ubuntu 14.04 will not work for me either. Tried every way possible. Upgrading to 14.10 and probably 15.04 as soon as it's released.

Should we just accept this will never be fixed, at least not for AMD and 14.04 ?

Well that would suck, but I have seen similar expressions from people everywhere. Nothing seems to be working.
