I think I'm suffering from the same problem. I have the same machine (including graphics card) and the OS says it has to run in low graphics mode. When I try to run in that mode, it sends me to the terminal. If I choose recovery mode, then bail out and choose "resume normal boot", then it does load the OS just fine (presumably without the graphics driver loaded).
