Bug Description

I installed the catalyst 12.9 drivers, and everything seemed to work fine with doing a download from amd's site, doing a dpkg install of the three .deb files that were created.

After a reboot, the initial login screen seems right I then logged in, and got nothing but a blank screen, I tried removing the new etc/X11/xorg.conf that was created and put the original back, and that didn't seem to do anything.

I then installed 12.8 catalyst drivers over the top, and it still doesn't work, so I am trying to figure it out.

I was able to figure out a little more about it. When I said it wasn't working before, basically it wouldn't show anything but a blank desktop after you logged in. The right click menu still worked, as well as the settings and stuff from there.

I was finally able to get it back by removing the catalyst drivers following the instructions here:
http://ubuntutechnical.wordpress.com/2011/11/20/install-ati-official-drivers-in-ubuntu/

Then reinstalling the fglrx by running
sudo apt-get fglrx
