Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
Release: 12.10
amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run (which was running 12.04)
AMD HD 4250

1)Was running the included ATI/AMD driver (11.3 I think it is) on the 12.04 install
2) Upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10
3)Screen went from 1080x1whatever it was, to 640x480
On attempted to edit settings, received "Initialization Error
There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.

No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig"
4) Attempted the suggested aticonfig which stated there was no detected hardware
5) As it had worked in the past and I still had it on hand, I tried using the 12.4 version
6) Purged the non functional driver
7) Installed 12.4 with Quantal packages which was partially successful.
I can now get * 0. 01:05.0 ATI Radeon HD 4250

* - Default adapter
But on attempting to get the Control box, The same
"There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.

No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig."
 appears.

The same behaviour occurs after restarting and reinstalling.

I would happily report bugs against this, but "Package fglrx-installer does not exist". As the system was working prior to the upgrade on a 2011 machine.
