Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash | may be a hardware issue. My CPU is a AMD Sempron 2800+. A bios change to make it a 2600+ and ffmpeg works. So it may be a cpu/chipset/memory sync issue that is causing the segfault. |
