Bug Description

Ubuntu Intrepid, updated to 2008-02-03

ffmpeg no longer supports AMR NB or WB. Under Hardy, it used to. The codec seems to be disabled.

$ ffmpeg -i MVI_0002.3GP -ar 44100 MVI_0002.mp4

I have installed
   * ffmpeg 3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3 from main
   * libavcodec-unstripped-51 3:0.svn20080206-12ubuntu3+unstripped5 from multiverse.

I do not have a copy of the result under Hardy. I can upload an example video if necessary, but it probably just needs to be enabled in the build.

It would be wonderful to get AMR_NB decode back again so that I can transcode videos from my phone...

the ffmpeg package in ubuntu has never supported AMR, since the work on
the AMR codec has not been merged in upstream yet.

Under Hardy, Medibuntu provided *-unstripped, which included support for AMR.

Under Intrepid, Medibuntu does not provide ffmpeg or lib*-unstripped anymore. Instead, these packages are available in the multiverse repository, which I installed as suggested in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/+bug/291011/comments/1.

This comment goes on to say:

"They should include all necessary codecs (except amr, because I haven't had the time to add it, please open a specific bug report if you are interested by it)..."

I am interested by it, as are some others, judging from the forums.

This is the specific bug report requested. If this is the wrong package, please could someone who knows better change it to the right one.

Thank you.
