Bug Description

I don't know what I did to get *in* it, but I see no way to get out.
The "about" menu page is open (stupid page anyway).

I did a web search, found I'm supposed to click on an icon in the toolbar.
But the toolbar etc is *gone*. It's off-screen.

I can alt-right-click on the window to pop a menu down to close the app, but that's all.
When I re-start, it's still in a useless fullscreen mode with no tool bar.

alt-f does nothing. ctrl-f nothing. all sorts of other combos nothing.
Alt-mousedrag does nothing.

F11 does not have that effect in this case.

Any other ideas?

Richard,

Also, please remove your premature "invalid".
I tried, but for me it just sits there spinning.

Ok it sounds like you are using unity. As you said it is a rite out of the box install. Try to open the terminal press Ctrl - Alt - T
Then reset unity. Past this and hit enter unity --reset
Please let me know if this worked.

If the simple reset dose not work try to run all 3 of these one at a time in the terminal.

   unity --reset-icons

   gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compizconfig-1
unity --reset

rm -rf ~/.config/compiz-1/compizconfig/*

Please let me know if this worked for you.

Ok i assumed it was unity because i could not replicate the issue. I have replicated it.
To fix the issue open fbreader and press the o key alone. This will open the config menu then go to the keys tab. In the action for keys area press any key i used q. Then select toggle full screen mode. Then hit apply and the q key will toggle full screen.
Please let me know if this works for you.

Hi!

Thanks for re-thinking your remark
(I really mean that! most people never do, and often I wait too long myself...)

Right, I was not using Unity. (I disable it as a matter of course.)

I was able to follow your instructions, to open a config dialog (using a surprising keystroke "o",
and set a key sequence which toggles full-screen mode (none had been set, by the way),
then using that sequence, I got out of full-screen mode.) Thank you!

This is TERRIBLE. *nobody* would have thought of that.

1) Full-screen mode ought not to be an F-key. It ought to be something like control-F, as in many other apps.
2) Raw letters "such as o" ought not to be command keys, (unless you enjoy surprising your users.)
3) Command keys ought to be reachable by a menu. A right-click pop-down menu would have been nice.

By the way, I could have got out of this myself, by deleting the settings files.
That isn't the issue. I wanted to see if it was *possible* using the interface. You have done that,
and illustrated just what a mess the interface is, in this respect.

Please send this upstream. It is an embarrassing bug, and they ought to see it.

Again, Richard, thank you for your attention to this matter!
