Annoying confirmation at shutdown

Bug Description

Usually, I shut down my pc via the fast user-switch. But recently it seems that something changed: If I click on "Shutdown", I want the computer to shutdown immediatly, but now all that happens is that this confirmation dialogue pops up.

This confirmation dialogue is VERY annoying, especially when you're in a hurry. Just think of a fire extinguisher that in case you want to use it comes up with a warning "Hello! Unless you press cancel, this extinguisher will automatically start to spray in 57 seconds [cancel][spray]"
I don't want to debate with my pc, I want it to do as I say. So remove this thing, please :-)

It seems that this was marked as a duplicate of bug 283095, which is actually about the lack of confirmation dialog. Anyway, as you can see from that bug, the confirmation dialog was a design decision and therefore will not be removed.

Thanks for your response :-)

Dialogues like this are a real nuisance in my eyes - and since shutdown asked you what to do in case you have open documents, eg. in gedit, I see no reason for them. Anyone who really clicks this by accident just has to cope with the waiting for the reboot. Probably they'll learn that after doing 1-2 reboots by accident, which is by far better than annoying everyone with the question, if he/she really wants to do what he wants to do. That would damage Ubuntu's swift navigation, in my opinion.
But given the fact this seems to be set in stone, I'd suggest to make this dialogue optional, ie. it can be disabled in the preferences. So I will reset the status to "new", I hope that's correct?

Thanks!

(I do not mean to offend someone, I'm just angry with my pc ;-) )

There are very valid reasons to have the confirmation - it is too easy to select the wrong option from the FUSA, inadvertently terminating your session and loosing your work. IMO, this does not need to be configurable at all, but it's not for me to decide, so I'll leave it open for someone like Ted to decide.

So now I have one applet to log off without annoyance (I am not a child, I do not need pampering like users of some other OS), and another applet to change IM state or change user .... this is ludicrous. It defeats the whole point of the combined f-u-s-a.

Please may we have the option to disable it is f-u-s-a, just like the extant logout applet ?
