Bug Description

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

I have 3 users on my laptop, two of the "user" group. When I use the fast-user-switch-applet to switch between them, the mouse stops moving. It's just in the middle of the screen, not moving. I have to somehow go out in the GDM login screen to get the mouse working again. This is a laptop btw and my synaptics section on xorg.conf looks like this:

Section "InputDevice"
  Identifier "Synaptics"
  Driver "synaptics"
  Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
  Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
  Option "LeftEdge" "1700"
  Option "RightEdge" "5300"
  Option "TopEdge" "1700"
  Option "BottomEdge" "10000"
  Option "FingerLow" "25"
  Option "FingerHigh" "30"
   Option MaxTapTime "0"
  Option "MaxTapMove" "220"
  Option "VertScrollDelta" "100"
  Option "MinSpeed" "0.06"
  Option "MaxSpeed" "0.12"
  Option "AccelFactor" "0.0010"
  Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
  Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection

This should be a show-stopper bug. It's a feature that was made easily accessible to the user (by its inclusion in the panel), yet it causes the user to lose control of the computer after using it. If the user doesn't know how to get back to the previously used account, they may potentially lose their data.

I have the same problem with my acer laptop (also a synaptic touchpad). I think this also happens on my desktop as well. I will check and post a follow up.

Yeah, I only have this problem on my Acer Aspire 3000 lappy, and not my desktop.

On my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop I have the same issue with the touchpad when I fast user switch. I plugged in a usb mouse to be able to regain control of the pointer and switched back to the other user. Touchpad worked again when I was back to the first user.

Same bug here on my zepto 6024w laptop. Because the keyboard stays controlable you can change to the console with ctrl+alt+f1 and directly change back to desktop with ctrl+alt+f7. On my machine, the unlock-dialogue for the first account logged in appears. So you can type in your password and won't lose data. The touchpad works again then, too.

Same issue here on a SONY VAIO PCG GRZ 615M equipped with a synaptic touchpad.
Using currently Gutsy latest build with all updates.
When switching user the touchpad is not responing anymore. ( mouse pointer is at the middle of the screen)
Pressing ctrl+alt+tab brings me back the unlock-dialogue of the account where I'm logged in already and just need to enter the password. The touchpad is than working again.
