F-Spot crashes with no warning when 'Slideshow' is requested

Bug Description

F-Spot crashes immediately an attempt is made to start a slideshow (using the Slideshow command). This happens whether no matter how the Slideshow command is issued: either the button on the GUI, pressing F5 or selecting 'Slideshow' from the View menu.

No warning is given and no error message is generated. F-Spot simply quits immediately.

I am using F-Spot (f-spot 0.5.0.3) under Ubuntu 8.10, on a Dell Dimension 4600 with ~2 GB RAM.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

I am reopening this bug - see below.

I installed and enabled apport to try and catch the crash after I discovered that the /var/crash directory was empty even after reproducing this bug in F-Spot. However, no matter how frequently I make F-Spot crash - even with apport running and working properly - nothing is written to /var/crash and apport appears not to be triggered by it.

Please advise how to proceed in debugging this.

Try to obtain a backtrace then http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and attach the file to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem. And please don't assign bugs to people if you don't know what you're doing, thanks.

The Slideshow function works following an upgrade of Ubuntu to 9.04.

This also appears to work in the Karmic Beta.
