Bug Description

Binary package hint: f-spot

When I import jpegs with EXIF data into f-spot, the dates under the picture are the import dates not the EXIF dates. Both the date under the picture in the browser mode and the date on the left-hand panel are wrong. Additionally, the left-hand panel does not display the exposure ("exposure: (None)"). In View->Meta Data Browser however, the EXIF data is correctly listed, which means it isn't lost during the import process. I usually download pictures from my camera and process them with Bibble before importing them into f-spot as jpeg. This wrong behaviour does not happen with pictures imported from my mobile phone camera (without processing in Bibble). I tried to strip down the meta data with exiftool to only contain EXIF tags but it didn't help. I attach a sample photo which demonstrates the misbehaviour. Pictures in my album from March seem to be filed under the EXIF date but my next batches starting from May are wrong so the behaviour probably changed during the upgrade to Hardy.

This is on Hardy 64bit with -proposed enabled. F-Spot is at version 0.4.3.1-0ubuntu1.

I found it in the GNOME bugtracker. Hope adding this information via "Also affects: Project..." is the right way to connect the two.

Here is a workaround, which only works before importing into f-spot. Just rewrite all tags with exiftool before importing, e.g. 'exiftool -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -r -ext JPG .' to rewrite all jpegs in the current directory. F-Spot will recognise not only the date but also the exposure data.
