Strange filenames in Examples folder

Bug Description

The filenames in the Examples folder of the live-cd must be quite strange for a new user. E.g:
oo-about-ubuntu-ru.rtf
oo-cd-cover.odg
wonderland_ch_01.spx

Why not change them to:
About Ubuntu [Russian]
CD Cover
Alice In Wonderland - Chapter 01

As this could be the first folder users are looking into, it should be as easy for the eyes and mind as possible, imho.

I agree. Why not use Linux's support for arbitrary filenames instead of limiting ourselves to lowercase characters, hyphens, and underscores.

It was done this way to group files by applications (like OpenOffice), though tastes will differ. We won't change the names for dapper, ut can revisit the topic for edgy.

I can understand that, but I think it's clearer for a first time user. It looks more polished I would say. Sad that the examples in Dapper aren't as polished as they could be. It would indeed be good to change them for edgy.

Dapper has been released now, so I think it's time to revisit the topic. (I was just about to report a duplicate of this bug.)

The community team is preparing an update to the example content for Hardy so we should see this fixed in the process.

The correct way to group files by application in a folder is to set the folder to open in "View" > "Arrange Items" > "By Type" by default, not to give them crufty names.

If you're going to include examples, they should actually be *good* examples. Show that you can use spaces and Unicode characters in filenames. Organize them in folders based on their content, not based on the filetype.

How about this for structure and filenames?

Then instead of being an "Examples" folder in the Home directory, it could be a "Welcome" or "Introduction" folder on the Desktop, for more visibility for newcomers, with Introductory files inside, and then more example files in a subdirectory.

I'm not sure if removing the file extensions is a good idea. Most are recognized fine by magic words, but some (Trigonometric functions.xls) are not.

This was fixed, but it still uses underscores instead of spaces. Why?
