Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I have subscribed to 3 different iCal (Zimbra) calendars. I have them checked (enabled) and have told Evolution to display alarm notifications 15 minutes before an event. The events appear both in Evolution and under "appointments" when I click on the date/time applet in Gnome. However, I never receive any notifications.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but the only mail account I have configured in Evolution is a "none" account (no IMAP, POP, etc connection) since I don't use Evolution for email.

Bugs 40005 and 58540 appear to be similar.

I'm using Edgy, updated daily.

Thank you for your bug. Did you select those calendars to the preferences dialog alarm option? Do you have evolution open or not?

Hello, thanks for the response.

Yes, I have checked the web calendars for notification. In fact, they are the only ones checked for notification.

Evolution is typically closed - though the evolution-alarm-notify process is still running - but I'm experiencing the same issue with Evolution open.

The notifications work fine for the web GNOME calendar on my desktop, the tarballs day are announced correctly for example

Could you provide your relevant gconf settings (/apps/evolution/*)? Maybe I have inadvertently configured something that blew away my notifications or am missing a plugin or something.

While browsing through my gconf settings I noticed that /apps/evolution/calendar/notify/calendars is blank ([]) even though I have the calendars checked in Evolution, last_notification_time is -1, and programs is blank ([]).

Do you have the calendar activated in the alarm preferences dialog?

Yes, as specified in the original report:

"I have [the Zimbra calendars] checked (enabled) and have told Evolution to display alarm notifications 15 minutes before an event."

Are you going to share your gconf settings for comparison to see if some other combination of options has munged the configuration?

The gconf key /apps/evolution/calendar/notify/calendars lists the calendars which are enabled, that seems to not work correctly with a new account on my desktop neither, confirming the bug

Any update on this? 5 months of being late to meetings is wearing down on me... =) Is there any additional information I can provide to help?

A way to trigger the bug from a stock installation would be nice, otherwise the issue is that ten of thousand of bugs are opened and the number of people working on them is limited so it takes time for minor issues to be worked

Well, this issue doesn't seem to be present in Ubuntu 7.10, so I don't know if it's worth pursuing any longer.

I can confirm this in Hardy as of today. I've got an iCal source (from google) and it downloads the events just fine, but doesn't give me notifications.
It does, however, notify me for locally created (as in, stored in evolution) events. This is very frustrating.
