Trying to regain a pop3 account since upgrade to oneiric.

Bug Description
The system had been working finr until the upgrade to oneiric ocelot. since then I've had printer problems - unable to run the server printer. one of the pop3 accounts no longer collects mail, I have to use Windows for this account this now.
I am am a comparativley new but happy, system ignorant Linux user but I am starting to have serious doubts about this implementation of the O/S.
