Evolution can't connect to IMAP servers with AAAA records

Bug #8416 reported by Martijn vdS on 2004-09-23

evolution (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

My IMAP server has both an AAAA and an A record, and evolution can't connect to
it, with the following error:

Error while Scanning folders in "IMAP server facecrime.net".
Could not connect to facecrime.net (port 143): Invalid argument.

This happens both when I have IPv6 on and working, and when I've disabled it.

Are you using a SSL connection ? Chaning the option to never help ?
How do you turn the IPV6 off ?

I'm using SSL (STARTTLS) on port 143. I can't connect to the server without SSL
(this used to work before the server had an AAAA record). If I remove the AAAA
record everything works fine.

I turn off IPv6 by setting /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/accept_ra to 0, and
removing all IPv6 addresses with "ip addr del <ipv6ip> dev <device>". Then I
restart evolution, just to be sure.

The temporary solution I'm using is to enter the IPv4 IP in the "server name"
box, but that isn't really the best solution.

I've reported the issue upstream:

Is this bug still here with evolution 2.0.1 ? According to the upstreams it has
already been fixed ...

Martijn vdS (martijn) wrote :

Yes, it seems to work now.

Ok good, so bug marked as fixed. Feel free to reopen it if that happens again.
