I have a working Internet connection. But, the send/receive button is greyed out as is the "work on line" select under "file"

I sourced this problem to Network Manager. Network Manager does not for some reason, detect my Internet connection, a Next G Wireless Broadband Modem on ppp0. Removing Network Manager resolved this.
