Bug Description

It seems like some mail is being filtered, but I get lots of "Check Junk Failed" errors in the status bar.

I believe "errorcode 1" for SpamAssassin is "this is spam", if you use the -c cmdline flag. I might be wrong on that, though.

Just to be clear: I'm tracking Intrepid, have spamassassin installed and available.

thanks for your report, which version of Ubuntu are you running? May you please run evolution from the command line as: evolution &> evolution.txt perform the operation and attach that log to the file? thanks.

I'm using Intrepid, tracking with the latest version, i386. I just ran evolution from the command line as requested; I'll attach the results. And, yes, I saw the same error message as before.

So, is this bug still "incomplete"?

there is nothing really useful in the log, the bug should be confirmed by somebody using spamassasin and sent to bugzilla.gnome.org

I have the same problem using the amd64 8.10 release candidate. I use an external spam filter that simply adds a header. I then set a filter under the spam tab in evolution to tag and move these email messages. I turn off spam checking by unchecking the "check incoming email for spam checkbox, but leave on the Check Custom Headers. The custom headers works.

I notice that the error only occurs at startup when email has built up on my IMAP server. After the initial re-sync, I recieve no errors about spam checking. It is as though the initialization code does not check for the disabled option and that it does not correctly connect to the BogoFilter plugin. Evolution does report that the plugin is available and the binary installed.

Oops - just realized this was for SpamAssassin not BogoFilter. Perhaps I should file a separate bug? Or, perhaps the two are related?

Here are the spamassassin related processes:

$ ps aux | grep spam

bonnaud 3380 1.1 1.5 35776 32692 ? S 14:53 0:04 spamd child

and everything seems to be OK:

-rw-r--r-- 1 bonnaud bonnaud 5 2008-10-26 14:53 .evolution/cache/tmp/spamd-pid-file-qiPZfr
srw-rw-rw- 1 bonnaud bonnaud 0 2008-10-26 14:53 .evolution/cache/tmp/spamd-socket-path-qHjlA1

$ cat .evolution/cache/tmp/spamd-pid-file-qiPZfr
3361

In previous evolution versions (2.22) I had several perl and spamd processes (perhaps one per account ?).

Same problem here. First time evolution loaded it worked fine. Even processed emails that I told it were Junk OK.
Once I reloaded Evolution it stopped working. Every time I check mail, and get something new, I get the error.

'spamd' & 'spamd child' are run when evolution receives new mail, and exit when it closes. If no mail is received, the processes never start. spamc is never used AFAIK, even though its synaptic description says it will be used automatically.

Related?: evolution-rss plugin isn't working either. Keeps checking feeds every time I manually click send/receive, even if it hasn't been 60 minutes (in 8.04 it would just say 'canceled' and not do anything until 60 minutes had passed); then, the "Fetching Feeds (1 enabled) (...)" stays in the status bar even after I cancel the check and close the send/receive window. Hitting the red stop sign X button in the status bar doesn't do anything. I have to exit evolution and restart for it to go away, when evolution checks mail itself it works fine.
