Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I own a netbook with screen resolution 1024x600 on which I installed ubuntu 8.04 with newest updates.

The mail, contact, memo and task view in evolution work fine with this resolution, however the calendar view seems to assume a larger screen so there is a part of the window missing at the bottom that I cannot reach.

When I maximize the window, it moves down and up a few pixels, which results in the title bar being either normally visible or out of view at the top of the screen (see screenshots). This switches whenever I click on the window, so I miss the object I wanted to click on.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Does it only happens after you switch to the calendar? I cannot reproduce it here with same resolution on a VM, does it works fine for you in Intrepid? can you try to reproduce it without compiz? thanks.

Yes, it happens after I switch to the calendar. Before that everything works fine.

When I disable compiz, the window no loger moves on every click, but it is still larger than the screen, so there is stuff missing at the bottom.

I don't have Intrepid yet, I can tell you about that when it's released.

So I have upgraded to intrepid now.

The problem still persists, but in the meantime I have found a workaround (which also works on hardy):

If you check "View/Switcher Appearance/Hide Buttons" the minimum size of the window seems to shrink and it can be properly maximized on the screen. However my opinion is that this should be done by default on an *x600 resolution.

The workaround doesn't work on my Asus EEEPC with Intrepid. The window is still too large for the screen.

Yes. It make Evolution not usable on 1024*768 4/3 screen. And after
having the problem, even to go back to email functionality does not
return : after being thresholded, no way to click on anything. So in
such a case, we're forced to use an other email client (thunderbird...).
Very old problem that remain unsolved through many releases.

The Evolution team suggest to use "evolution --express" on netbooks. However the express mode is not as usable as the full version, and we can not take for granted that novice users know about it. Evolution have worked perfectly on netbooks with Ubuntu in the recent versions, this should be fixed in 10.10, too.

This bug is present on Ubuntu UNE 10.04 LTS and 10.10 running on a netbook with screen resolution of 1024 x 600 (wide screen.) Problem only evident with GNOME desktop. Both mail and contacts scale correctly. However, when switching to calendar the window is larger that 1024 x 600. Consequently, the switcher icons drop off the screen. Screenshots to follow.
