Bug Description

I installed Evolution just for the sake of trying and help diagnosing an unrelated bug. Not that I intend to use it.

The first time I ran it, it asked me to insert an email address for creating an account, so I did, I entered a gmail address and the correct password, but the mail authentication request keeps failing.

I have double-checked that the password is correct by logging in to that very same gmail account in a new incognito browser window.

I wanted to report this upstream but the version of Evolution is obsolete upstream.

So, can't even begin to use it. Fortunately I wasn't going to, so I don't care, but it's pathetic.

I see, it's Google blocking access from Evolution because it is known to have security issues.

So, not only Ubuntu is distributing an obsolete version of the application, but even une that is known to be a security hazard. Cool!

I think the "less secure" issue is fixed in Ubuntu 17.10. In April, the next LTS version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, will be released with all fixes from 17.10.
