You get the sound alert if you use a WAV file...but no other format
works.

Gutsy, Evolution 2.12.1.

When I change my settings to sound notification, nothing happens on new mail arrival.

But specifying /usr/share/example-content/ubuntu\ Sax.ogg as the custom sound to be played produces noise when the mail arrives (the contents of the file must be misinterpreted).

It was fixed by editing the plugin Mail Notification.

I have a .wav file, and Evolution can't play it. The (ugly)system beep comes out fine though. I'm listening to music through Sonata, so it's not a sound card problem(I think). If it matters, I'm running a Gnome/Openbox combo.

Gary,
it is set in one of the plugin settings now. I can't remember which one and I am at work right now, but I can look tonight.

You mean Mail Notification? I've checked that, and chose the file that I wanted to play. But still, nothing. Thanks for helping to look into it.

That's exactly how mine is setup. What's the file type of your sound file? What size is it?

Nothing works. I've got the file down from 1.1Mb to 34kb, but still nothing. I'm beginning to wonder if it's some sort of decoder or something that I'm missing.

I am having this issue after upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04.
It was working fine before.
Is there any resolution.
I have tried all the configurations.

Does it have something to do with esound?

I would like to re-open this for INtrepid, it seems the problem persists. Nothing I do will allow sound to play when a new email is received. It worked on the beta, but after a clean install to the final Intrepid, incoming mail sounds do not work for me.

Help?

thanks

Same problem here. In Interprid there is no button "enable software sound mixed".

I've tried with ogg and wav files < 1mb.

Is there any solution for this bug by now?
