As can be seen from supplied screenshot. The categories normally seen in the message list window (and list of unread mail itself) which can be changed to organise ascending and descending ... have disappeared.

The category lists will return after a application shutdown, a wait and restart, but always messes up again.

No. This is the same after the gnome-themes-standard update too.
