Bug Description

Since I upgraded to Intrepid the evolution plugin cannot be loaded and gnome do gives this error when starting:

[Error 15:01:00.321] "Evolution Contacts" (Evolution.ContactItemSource)
encountered an error in UpdateItems: An exception was thrown by the type
    initializer for Evolution.SourceList

The issue has been reported by other users here: https://answers.launchpad.net/do/+question/49322 but I thought opening a bug report would have been the best procedure.

This looks like a bug in libevolution-cil, not GNOME Do.

I experienced the same bug. I found the problem because tasque couldn't connect to the evolution dataserver, too. Tasque said a dll was missing. The problem is that
/usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.9 does not exist as softlink in intrepid.

The a quick fix for tasque and for gnome-do is to execute the following command:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.11.0.0 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.9

(this assumes that libedataserver1.2-11 is installed)

Changed in do:
status: New → Invalid

The bug is a duplicate, but even after symlinking libedataserver-1.2.so.9 the plugin does not work correctly for me: the email are created with "///" in front of the chosen email address in the TO field.

Is this an indipendent issue?

Guido - olliwolli's 'quick fix' would be unreliable at best and I'm not surprised that it doesn't work for you. A new version of evolution-sharp will be on the way soon, built against the current version of libedataserver

This did work for me, though we'll see how long it lasts.

Hi,

I'm also getting this in the console when activating the Evolution Plugin for Gnome-Do (0.8.0).
"Evolution.ContactItemSource "Evolution Contacts" encountered an error in UpdateItems: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for Evolution.SourceList."

Chris said earlier:

I see here https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-sharp that this new version hasn't found its way into intrepid yet, but there is a newer version under development for Jaunty only.

Any chance we will see at least a fix for Intrepid still?

After using the fix posted by olliwolli the Evolution Plugin worked well with Ubuntu Intrepid. Nevertheless I get the same problem again after upgrading to GnomeDo 0.8.1. Starting GnomeDo in the console gives following output:

"(Do:30724): libebook-CRITICAL **: file e-book.c: line 2127: assertion `book && E_IS_BOOK (book)' failed
Evolution.ContactItemSource "Evolution Contacts" encountered an error in UpdateItems: file e-book.c: line 2127: assertion `book && E_IS_BOOK (book)' failed."

This seems to be an other error description as the formers.
(sorry for my crappy english!)

This is not a duplicate of "beagle-backend-evolution cant find libedataserver-1.2.so.9", I experience it and don't even have Beagle or any of it's back-ends installed.

A year went by, no evolution-sharp version came along that fixed it either.

Anybody know if this is even relevant still?

It's still relevant to evolution-sharp; evolution-sharp is totally
broken.

The Do plugin has been removed because it doesn't work, but could easily
be reinstated if someone invested the effort to get a working
evolution-sharp. That's likely to be not *too* hard.
