Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Problem:

Evolution filtering freezes with message "Filtering new messages (0%)". Evolution gives no indication that a new mail has arrived, doesn't show unread messages in my folders, and definitely does not take the actions defined in my filters on messages.

This appears to only be an issue with both junk filtering and panel notification turned on. If I turn off one or the other then all of my filters are completed successfully.

Expected result:

I would expect filtering to complete when new messges arrive. I would expect the messages that match my rules to have actions taken on them. I would expect to be notified of new messages when they arrive.

Work arounds:

I seem to have a choice of two work-arounds.
  * Disable junk filtering (Mail Preferences -> Junk -> Check incoming messages for junk)
 or
  * Disable panel notification (Mail Preferences -> General -> Indicate new messages in the panel)

I have included a backtrace. It was captured with both Junk filtering and Notification enabled. It seems to point at org_gnome_mail_new_notify doing something, but I don't know what.

Turning panel notification doesn't fix the problem. It freezes with junk filtering enabled and panel notification turned off.

I get the same here with Evolution 2.28.1-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu 9.10. At some point receiving mail (using IMAP4 here) just stops working (checked mail as well using webmail and I received new mail which doesn't show in Evolution) and it hangs on the "filtering new messages". When I try to quit Evolution it just hangs completely, and I have to kill it (evolution --force-shutdown). Then after starting Evolution again the new mail shows up again.

This also effects Ubuntu 10.04 Evolution 2.28.3

I had this exact issue with Mail Notification plugin turned off however when I configured the plugin and removed all notification settings everything worked fine again.

Evolution will also crash if I attempt to enable this plugin.
