Evolution always uses UTF-8 for mail headers even though we select
"ISO-2022-JP" for character set in setting dialog. This config seems
to have effect only for mail body.
Since many mail clients on PCs, mobile phones and some web sites
(e.g. Hotmail) can't decode Japanese UTF-8 headers, we can't read
Japanese subject and from fields on mails sent with Evolution.
This is because ISO-2022-JP is used for mail body and headers
in Japan over the years, and it's hard to change all email clients
on PCs and mobile phones to accept UTF-8 headers in the now.
I think it's big problem that Evolution, the Ubuntu default MUA,
is hard to use in Japan. |
