Bug Description

In the weather calendar in evolution, the only locations available are for the
US, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands.

As an Australian I'd obviously wish Australia weather to be available, but this
should be expanded for all countries on out planet.

This bug is now over one year old. The weather calendar feature in evolution is only available for US residents. I don't believe that Ubuntu should ship feature that are only of benefit to US residents. This feature should be disabled until the number of supported countries are greatly increased.

I agree with Lex, but I believe that 2.6 has weather for the UK and Australia as well nowadays.

<nudge> Is anyone from the Evolution team prepared to comment on the status of this issue? The Evolution FAQ gives no help either: http://www.go-evolution.org/FAQ#How_can_I_use_the_weather_plugin.3F

Will this feature be available to users outside of the U.S. (ever)?

I agree with the comments above, this feature should be removed as it is next to useless to the rest of the world.

This seems more like a case of sour grapes than a bug.

Rather than trying to remove a feature used by a significant number (and perhaps fraction) of Ubuntu users, perhaps users from the "rest of the world" who actually care about the feature could get involved and put in the effort to get the feature extended to their countries. Weather-applet probably has most of what's needed to do it. If not, then that's a strong indication of a lack of interest on their parts.

Certainly we Americans would rightly be accused of heresy if we asked for a feature that only worked in Swaziland to be removed because it didn't work for us. Maybe Swaziland is the only place that cares about the feature, but they care a lot. In that case, it's a net positive to have it, so long as they are providing the effort needed to maintain it.

OSS grows by embracing and building on the contributions of others, not by shooting them down because they don't work for you.

Fact is, gnome weather applet can get weather for other countries. I might download the source for evolution and gnome weather applet and enable them to use each others data sources.

This would be best commented upstream. We do not have the resources to work on it here. Also, we *do* accept help, if anyone is willing to work on this.

Work recently done on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352287 (the dependency of our upstream) has just been committed to trunk (2.25.*). This work has added the option of building Evo linking to gweather (and, thus, providing weather data much more extensively than on current stable).

I do not think we will have it for stable, though -- the dependency for libgweather is >= 2.25.3. I will wait a bit before marking this bug fix committed.
