Bug Description
Binary package hint: evms
An upgrade from dapper->hardy had update-manager-core bail out early due to another failed package upgrade. evms was still installed at the end and causes lots of device-mapper errors continuously until evms was removed:
[ 684.431628] device-mapper: table: 254:4: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 684.432259] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
[ 684.437932] device-mapper: table: 254:4: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 684.438474] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
[ 684.444016] device-mapper: table: 254:4: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 684.444564] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
[ 684.450706] device-mapper: table: 254:4: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 684.451248] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
[ 684.456865] device-mapper: table: 254:4: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 684.457412] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
Similar issue on my machine. I did an upgrade 6.06.2 -> 6.10 -> 7.04 -> 7.10 and since the upgrade my logs are saturated with:
kernel: [ 452.164383] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
'sudo /etc/init.d/udev stop' would turn the errors off, but that was likely not the proper solution.
Manually removing the evms package seems to solve this issue.
