Bug Description

Hi !

I've got a problem with Document viewer 3.2.1.

Indeed, i can't scroll the pages of PDF files with the touch pad. It's not fluid at all and i have to use a mouse.
It doesn't work with Unity and Gnome-Shell interfaces.
Note that it's not a touch pad problem because it works good with my other, OS Windows 7.

Ubuntu 11.10
Kernel 3.0.0.12
Version : X86_64

PC :
Asus X5DIE

PS : Sorry for my bad english but i'm french.

Thanks for all.

Pierre.

Does the problem persist for *every* PDF that you open?

I use Evince (Document Viewer) everyday and I once got the same problem while reading a PDF file, but for others it works just fine.

Hi !

To begin, thank you for your answer.

I've tried many PDF files and all have the same problem. I've tried
small PDF (several Ko) and bigger (with several Mo).

This problem is very strange. I've nerver had this problem with Ubuntu
11.04.
Maybe i have to reinstall Ubuntu 11.10...

If you need more informations, I could answer you.

Thanks for all.

Pierre.

Well, you do not need to reinstall a complete OS just because a single program is not working. Maybe try to reinstall Document Viewer. If the problem persists, we'll look at it.

You in the description mentioned that you can't use your touchpad to scroll through pages so you use mouse. Does it work with the mouse?

Until the issue is resolved you can try other PDF readers available in the Software Center. Also Google Chrome does a nice job as a PDF reader though you might miss some features.

Hi !

I've just reinstalled Document Viewer and the problem persists.

This problem appears with continuous mode and non-continuous mode.

To answer you, I've no problem when I take a mouse. Scrolling works very good whith the wheel. The problem comes from touch pad only.

I've just installed an other PDF viewer, Okular, which works very good with mouse and touch pad. It reads all my PDF files with any problem.

I hope you'll be able to correct this bug.

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Pierre.

I noticed some uncomfortable effects with Evince in Oneiric

- Scrolling pages with touchpad is not very smooth - pages are scrolled with jumps
- Sometimes after touchpad slide Evince goes crazy and continuously scrolls all the pages until the end of book

Have the same problem: "Scrolling pages with touchpad is not very smooth - pages are scrolled with jumps".

Probably it's because of the smooth-scroll-like-macOS they want to give us. I love smooth-scrolling and I want it, but this problem is a big fail to users like me that read a lot of papers :S

I need to use the mouse, because it is a pain using touchpad+evince.
