Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Making quite a few annotations, I realized that after saving a copy, closing and opening the saved file, approx. 50 % of all annotations had a zero content.

AFAIK all annotations were in place. There color was fine (I used three different colors in that document). But the contents was gone.

I could not find any rule for this.

Maybe I should mention, that I filled all annotations using copy & paste.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:
1. Is this reproducible?
2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as detailed as possible.

Hi Marcel,

thanks for responding. The bug is quite easily reproducible. Here is
what I did:

I prepared a plain file with 10 comments:

lulu:/vm> cat input.txt
Comment #1
lulu:/vm>

The I copied /usr/share/doc/shared-mime-info/shared-mime-info-spec.pdf
in my working directory. I then opened the file with evince and did 10
annotations always using cut + paste. Finally I hovered with the mouse
over the annotations to assure they were all in place. This was the case.

I then saved the file as shared-mime-info-spec-with-10-annots.pdf, which
you will find enclosed.

As you will see, comments #1, #2, #3 and #10 are fine. All other
annotations have zero contents.

Hope this helps

Gerd

Adding another 3 comments (this time not by cut+paste, but keyboard input) 2 were fine, one had zero content.

So cut+paste may have no impact.

Thanks for the instructions, I was now able to reproduce the issue. I tried first with many comments on one page and this did work, but with comments on different pages I get the empty comments, you are seeing. The simplest example to reproduce the bug for me is: Put a comment on page one and another one on page two --> after saving, the comment on page two is empty.

One of the evince developers encountered the problem some time ago, but unfortunately did not follow up on it: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=628378
