Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

The 2.32 version of evince is supposed to support the feature that permits to add/edit/save annotations on the PDF file. I'm not able to access such features in the current Maverick's evince package. Are they disabled at compile time? Why?

I also miss these features. Actually, that is why I am so urgent to upgrade to maverick. I am also using 64 bit system.

The fact that evince 2.32 should support it is clearly stated here:

Found this post from the feature author: http://febuntoo.com/carlos-garcia-campos-adding-new-annotations-with-evince.html
Looking at the video you can see how it is supposed to access to the annotations related tools (very hidden!). In the actual Maverick version I'm able to see any already present annotation (it is possible to change the text and to 'save as' the final document) but I can't add any new annotation. The 'add' tab is missing.

I was thinking that it may depends on an old version of the poppler library in Maverick. In this article he says that such feature requires a recent version of the poppler library ("current git master") but such article is dated on 26th of July 2010.

The actual version of the poppler is 0.14.3 and the Ubuntu package has been packaged on the 15th of September (on a "New upstream bug fix release").
Now I've found that it seems to require the 0.15 version:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evince-list/2010-September/msg00012.html
It is a developtment version and I guess Ubuntu is not going to package it... :(

Since the evince in Natty supports annotations (probably due a newer poppler version, the evince version is the same) I set the status to fix released.

Changed in evince (Ubuntu):
status: New → Fix Released

I'm using oneric ocelot and I can't add annotations, is it a hidden feature or what?

Yes what I meant was underlining and higlighting, sorry I didn't explain myself properly.
