Sebastian,

(I was about to mention that I never post an error before checking on 3 of my machines, read the error log on Launchpad).

Yes, this is reproducable. Karmic 32bit version, Karmic 64bit version, unfortunately also on 9.04 on my HP nx8220.

What specific steps to reproduce:

Create a PDF document (preferably on a PC with Acrobat Destiller). It should be more than 4 pages long and have some graphics in it (You could use the evince manual).

Install any postscript printer (in our case its a HP 4500 DTN on Postscript).

Now print pages 3-5 (which need to have graphics included, png or svg will do).

If you can print, please let me know, as I have to look some place else. (which would be CUPS then).

Alternative:

Create a 6 page OpenOffice document with graphics. Generate a PDF export, print as above.

Printing out of OOo works, printing out of evince does not.

I do not have OOo docs in many cases which is why I need the functionality.

What does "does not print" mean:

Most likely, the printer will signal receipt of pages (blinking led). After approximately 10 - 15 minutes the led will go out, nothing printed. In the cups log, a success is reported.

Sometimes the printer will puke on the print (CRC error which can only be eliminated by hard reset of the printer).

I see you have libcairo2 1.8.8-2ubuntu1 and are on amd64. I also had a printing issue with that combination, but it was solved by enabling the karmic-updates repo and installing version 1.8.8-2ubuntu1.1. I would suggest trying that.
