Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Scenario is the following:

- print pdf doc with an up-to-date jaunty -> output is correct
- print same pdf with up-to-date karmic (2.28.1)

The computer behaves as usual and displays no error, but the the printer prints a text document instead of the pdf file.

The first lines of the printed document are as follow :
ERROR : undefined (COMMAND TYEP: nametype)
OFFENDING COMMAND: 0a "0a"
...

I expect Karmic to behave as Jaunty and additionnally bring the printed paper on my desktop (Indeed I only expect no regression).

Adobe acrobat behaves correctly with the same document.

The pdf doc is a single page, with some colors and graphics. I don't know how it was generated initially.

I note that the Helvetica fonts are not embedded in the pdf document. There is another bug #495430 that seems to affect pdf files with fonts that are not embedded. It causes the symptoms you describe.

Try printing the above document to a pdf file, and then try to print that second pdf file to your printer.

If the second pdf file prints okay and the fonts are now embedded, then this bug may be a duplicate of #495430 and should probably be marked as such. In fact, I am pretty sure it is, so I will mark it as such. If I am wrong, then by all means, switch it back.

@madbiologist: If this bug is a dupe of 495430, then it would be interesting to know what the difference is between your machine and the ones that don't print the file. Do you have Helvetica fonts installed natively on your printer?
