Bug Description

Opening a file of MIME type 'application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text' with extension '.odt' in evince gives an error message and the document fails to be displayed. The error message is as follows:

"Unable to open document
Unhandled MIME type: 'application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text' "

Evince is currently set as the default handler for OpenDocument files, but it can't open them due to this issue...

Package version evince 0.5.2-0ubuntu1, Dapper latest.

from evince.desktop:

"MimeType=application/pdf;application/postscript;application/x-gzpostscript;application/x-dvi;image/vnd.djvu;image/tiff"

no such type listed. Do you have an example of such .odt?

I created the attached file in OpenOffice and it gets exactly the same error message. In fact, ALL .odt files get this error message. Is evince even supposed to be able to read this format?

To my knowledge I haven't changed the default MIME type for .odt myself, and this problem has only appeared in the last few days. My evince.desktop doesn't list application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text in MimeType either.

Thanks

I can't reproduce the problem here (I tried saving the file to the desktop and it wants to open with OOo and trying to load it directly from the web again suggests OOo). Has OOo been uninstalled? Is your dapper install up to date?

Probably just my machine then, or a package I installed. Up-to-date Dapper.

I'm rejecting the bug, I'll re-open it if I find out anything more.

Thanks

It's 2011, Ubuntu is no longer a newby in the Linux world, and the PDF manager Evince is stiil opening the ODT files, instead of Libreoffice!!!???

You click with the right button, ask to "remember the association to open odt presentations with THIS application", chose Impress... and... no way, the ODT files are still associated with Document Viewer 2.03 Evince :-(
