Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in evince (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I made some tests, and it also fails on wayland. I also changed the system to the default icon theme and cursor icon but the problem still persists.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=827335 makes this look like its apparmor related

Hi there,

I applied the fix form here [https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=827335#54] and with that evince starts BUT with a new error, that I think it's also apparmor related:

(evince:14816): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to read the recently used resources file at '/home/carlo/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but the parser failed: Failed to open file “/home/carlo/.local/share/recently-used.xbel”: Permission denied.

Patch posted in debian bug worked for me after a small modification (weston-shared -> wayland-cursor-shared):

+ owner /{,var/}run/user/*/wayland-cursor-shared-* rw,

No issues with recently-used.xbel permissions.

Rainer Rohde (rainer-rohde) wrote :

So how long does this usually take to get fixed in Ubuntu? Still no go for me.

Mind you, I have no clue as to how to apply any patches outside of the Ubuntu apt update && apt upgrade runs I do daily...

Rainer Rohde (rainer-rohde) wrote :

Please disregard my post above. Perfect timing for it to have been fixed - and I just noticed it working again. :)

Joe Barnett (thejoe) wrote :

I haven't seen it work without manually applying andy's change to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince
