Cannot display PDF embedded Microsoft fonts (Chinese)

Bug Description

OpenOffice 2.2, OpenOffice 2.3, or PDF Creator on Microsoft Windows XP to create a PDF and send to a Ubuntu user. The Chinese characters are completely broken.

Ubuntu generated PDF documents are fine.

Same problem on my Gusty, evince displays the "OO23 Windows.pdf" with broken characters.

However adobe reader 7.08 Simplified Chinese version displays this file correctly.

Thanks for your bug submission. I don't know how to read Chinese, but acroread 8 seems to render reporter's document in a cleaner fashion than evince 2.20.1 under gutsy. Subtle differences with some errors as noted by reporter.

this problem also exist in ubuntu 8.04, but xpdf can display chinese very well. here is a pdf sample, evince screenshot and xpdf screenshot.

there is another similar bug related chinese character in evince. none of any chinese characters will be displayed.
I am afraid that I have to say that foxit reader for linux is the perfect solution for such situation.
