Bug Description

(Sorry, I'd use apport for this but it doesn't seem to want to report this crash for some reason.)

Today's upgrade said:

  Preparing to replace eucalyptus-cloud 1.5~bzr266-0ubuntu2 (using .../eucalyptus-cloud_1.6~bzr452-0ubuntu2_i386.deb) ...
   * Stopping Eucalyptus Cloud Controller [ OK ]
  Unpacking replacement eucalyptus-cloud ...
  dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/eucalyptus-cloud_1.6~bzr452-0ubuntu2_i386.deb (--unpack):
   trying to overwrite `/var/lib/eucalyptus/keys/nc-client-policy.xml', which is also in package eucalyptus-cc
  dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

If this file legitimately moved from eucalyptus-cc to encalyptus-cloud, then eucalyptus-cloud needs a suitable Replaces: field to tell the package management system about this. If it's inadvertently shipped by both packages right now, then that needs to be fixed. (I haven't checked.)

Colin Watson (cjwatson) wrote :

This seems to be an honest-to-goodness file conflict - the current version of eucalyptus-cc was unpacked first. I'm assuming it isn't intentional that it's impossible to install eucalyptus-cloud and eucalyptus-cc at the same time. :-)

This bug was fixed in the package eucalyptus - 1.6~bzr452-0ubuntu3

---------------
eucalyptus (1.6~bzr452-0ubuntu3) karmic; urgency=low

  * Only install the /var/lib/eucalyptus/keys/ directory in
    eucalyptus-cloud, not cc-client-policy.xml or nc-client-policy.xml;
    thanks to Daniel Nurmi for confirmation (LP: #418350).
