chaging the interface to "wlan0" or "any" crashes etherape

Bug Description

it runs just fine on eth0, but I use wifi on my netbook, and changing the view to wlan0 or any (so I can see the traffic) causes the etherape to close abruptly

I got same/similar behavior on 11.10. The behavior is completely flaky, changing with traffic and configuration but essentially making it useless. wlan0 causes immediate crash.

ps my wlan is running on a usb dongle and ethtool reports simply:

cheryl@cheryl-desktop:~$ gksudo ethtool wlan0
Settings for wlan0:
 Link detected: yes
cheryl@cheryl-desktop:~$

maybe this total lack of useful output from ethtool has something to do with it.
