etckeeper should now default to git as more and more people are moving towards it.

Etckeeper supports git, and many others VCSs, so you can use git. I'm marking bug as invalid.

Right, but the default on Ubuntu currently is bzr, and this seems to be the sole difference in the Debian packaging taken from Debian.

Bazaar is effectively abandoned. etckeeper's upstream default is git.
