update from dapper to edgy cause unusable system

Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
I updated from dapper, using:
gksu "update-manager -c"
During update, some error with python came up, but that didn't seem a problem. Later on there was a severe error, and the update stopped.
My system is now unusable.
