Bug Description

Eric has two versions: Eric4 which is based on Python 2, and Eric5 which is based on Python 3.

Eric5 was released in July 4th, 2010 and yet has not made an appearance in the Ubuntu repositories--there has only been Eric4 as of 12.04

Is there a reason the Eric5 goodness being held back? Or has it just been overlooked?

I could not find a PPA for Eric5 and I've already asked this in the questions section (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eric/+question/203117); it was suggested that I report this here.

I find Eric is a *fantastic* IDE, and am looking forward to having the most modern version. Thank you!

Here's his response:

The python3-qt packages have been added to Debian only a few months ago.

I will package Eric5 when I have time to do it but if someone wants to step forward and help I am more than willing to orphan it or cooperate with the packaging.

Gudjon

an installation from the source is quiet straight-foward for the meantime:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

As seen by the messages above, eric5 has been packaged in Debian. Eric 5.4.5-1 has been synced to the current development version of Ubuntu - Utopic Unicorn, thus I am closing this issue as fixed.

If anyone needs a newer version of eric in previous versions of Ubuntu, please follow the instructions for "Requesting a Backport" at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Requesting_a_Backport
