Bug Description

another process is using the packaging system database ...

This stops the Adept updater from adding the 25 packages which is says needs to be updated. The error message suggests something else is running using Adept or a related file but I can't see anything in the list of processes that appears to be interferring. Restarting et cetera doesn't fix the problem. Thus, no new or updated packages can be added.

I am testing the latest - flight six. I have reboot several times and that
doesn't seem to help. (I meant to create another account to see if it makes
a difference but have not gotten to it yet.) I'm sorry that wasn't clear,
I just followed the links to report a bug. I must admit I got a bit
confused during the process. Thanks.

Hi,

I confirm this bug also. I'm under Dapper Flight 6 and I've this problem since 10 minutes.
I don't see any adept process except adept_notifier when I do "ps -aux | grep ade". If I kill it ... problem is the same is I try to launch Adept throw Menu -> System -> Adept, and if I launch "Add/remove programs" I'll never see the program window.

By Menu -> System -> Adept, Adept is launched, password is asked, readonly database message from adept is prompted, mime-error message is prompted (another but not blocking bug).
Then, into the Adept application, if set a package from "not installed" to "to install" ... the button "Apply modifications" will never be enabled.

Hello,

To solve problem, in console (under KDE it's OK) :

- sudo apt-get update
- sudo dpkg --configure -a
- sudo apt-get update
- Adept is running well now.

Some explications in French here : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=35272

kubuntu-docs was bad ... I don't know exactly what it means, but with theses commands it's OK for me now.

Many thanks! Works perfectly now except for the two popup messages which
don't stop it.
