After zooming in/out the memory usage increases and continues to increase when ever you zoom in/out.

Was about to report it. It begins at about 20 MB RAM, but the RAM usage grows up to 300 MB or so. This can slow down your system a lot if you only have about 256-512 MB RAM. It seems that zooming in increases the RAM usage proportionally, but zooming out doesn't decrease it, and zooming it again will increase it again, even if you zoom in to the same level as before.

The trac bug isn't the same, but it might have the same cause.

This problem still exists in Natty and Oneiric, if you use Ctrl + scrollwheel for scrolling you can bring the memory usage to extremely high values quickly.
