eog shows raw CR2 as blank

If I open a canon CR2 raw file (from a 40D) in EOG I just see a grey checkboard pattern. the file displays fine in shotwell.

Hi,
If not already seen, this is not a duplicate of bug #685196 like the page is announcing (or maybe I missed something).
This affects eog 3.2.1-0ubuntu1 from oneiric-updates repository under Linux Mint 12 LISA Os version though it works perfectly with the same cr2 (canon) files on a Debian squeeze Gnome 2.30 version.
If other informations are needed just ask, because it's my first time posting on the launchpad and, as allready said, I may have missed something. So feel free to tell and thanks in advance for all :D.

This is not a duplicate of bug #685196! This bug about Oneiric (11.10) and Precise (12.04), not about earlier versions!
In Natty eog works ok.

Got it with EOG 3.4.2 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
A workaround is to use Shotwell, but it is not very satisfying for an end-user.
