I can confirm this.

Image location is /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png.

Looking at the image properties it says the image type is actually "jpeg (The JPEG image format)".
So, the image has a bad filename, it should be "warty-final-ubuntu.jpg" instead. After that eog will open the file without problems.

It's eog bug, because it must view file headers to open it properly instead of file extention. It is not a ms windows application!!!

True (of course, i just needed some time away from the computer to realize that...)

eog seems to be the only image viewer that is stupid enough to look at the file extension only. This should be fixed.

True, but it doesn't mean that someone didn't screw up when doing the wallpaper.
The intended output was supposed to be in the PNG format.
