Cesare: ok, I did it. Thanks.

Robert: it looks like you're trying to install the ATI driver (with automatic hardware detection) even though you're using a NVIDIA card. Try selecting the option which says "Install the NVIDIA driver" instead.

It appears to be working. The only glitch is 3d acceleration is disabled or is not supported by this build of Ubuntu/Kubuntu - it worked while under restricted drivers in previous versions - it doesn't seem to be efen considered by new drivers. As a consequence, gmes which require 3d will not run, such as Open Arena, Chromium, 3D chess, and the open source version of Doom. In Wine, have only one game working where previously I had several, and it will not work in open GL mode, only 2d mode.

Also graphics programs that rely on 3d acceleration will not even boot up

Worked previously on older builds, but doesn't now.

Ok, I think I've found the problem (which is solved in the next release that has not yet been uploaded).

type:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server linux-headers-$(uname -r)

then launch EnvyNG again and try to install the driver again.

Then restart.

Let me know how it goes.

@alberto,

in the future you may want to use an (LP: #xxxxx) tag in your changelog so that your uploads will automagically mark bugs with an xxxxx number as fix released in lp.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I typed in "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server linux-headers-$(uname -r)" and I was able to install the nvidia drivers from envyng without any problems. I was even able to start playing urban terror! Thanks for the help.

One more note: I had this issue running Ubuntu 8.04 for x86. Just in case that helps.
