.epub files are zip files - yet the coder for engrampa refuses to open them.

RAR is discussed in different bug-report - bug 1947055 . Please do not mix them.

The current EPUB-related bug is fixed upstream for newer Engrampa releases. Please read linked bug-report.
Possible way to fix it on your current Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS it to add MATE 1.26 PPA to the system by using the following commands:

```
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/fresh-mate
sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade
```

then reboot and try newer desktop with newer Engrampa.

Did try it. Results are:

I believe this is the result of security "improvements" to my WiFi
connection that causes repeated disconnections.

Got WiFi working (temporarily) and then got the common errors:
