A forum post mentioning this is a bug that is fixed with upstream release, but not yet in Ubuntu.

It seems that this bug still exists.

Are there any efforts to solve this problem?

Please verify with latest version of Encfs and SSHFS. All reports to date of problems with SSHFS have been resolved by using newer versions of SSHFS which fix known SSHFS bugs.

Using the current versions of Ubuntu Feisty I still get errors when I try to create files inside a EncFS volume. Creating directories works fine.
I am using there versions:

encfs 1.2.5-1-1
sshfs 1.6-1

Both those are old versions... The current version of sshfs is 1.8 (May 16, 2007), and the current version of encfs is 1.3.2 (Feb 14, 2007). I'd update sshfs because they've been fixing known bugs and 1.6 is about 18 months old!

If there isn't anything more up-to-date Ubuntu, then you'll have to install them yourself. Perhaps the x86-64 versions aren't so recent, because I installed Ubuntu Feisty on x86-32 and it came with encfs-1.3.2.

I continue to have this problem, I can't create files or directories. I am using encfs version 1.3.2 and sshfs version 1.7 on Ubuntu 7.10.

I just tested on an AMD64 system with Ubuntu 7.10, with the most recent versions of sshfs and encfs. I am unable to reproduce this bug.

If there isn't a more recent SSHFS package for Ubuntu, it is easy to build yourself. Extract the tar file and run the following to generate a debian package for your system:

./configure
make
sudo checkinstall -D make install

I am having the same problem on Hardy. Compiling the latest SSHFS release (2.1) did not solve the problem.

btw, I am experiencing this problem on 8.04.1 on i386, not AMD64.

I have also upgraded encfs to 1.4.2, which makes no difference.

I'm having this problem too. I'm using entirely stock packages in 8.04.1 on x86_64.
