Bilal, I've provided all the details necessary for this bug in it's original description.

I am using the current version of Ubuntu (11.10). Please correlate this bug to the already-implemented solution or traige it as valid.

Apologies to Mark for including you. I just don't see any other way to bring this up.

The way this bug has been triaged just seems to guarantee lots of deflected issues. Naturally it's fine if the issue has already been corrected. But most users aren't going to know/bother to get the latest release of Empathy unless it involves a distro upgrade.

@omega - for further information regarding bugs and their statuses you might be interested in reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. Which says:

Confirmed:

Another reporter has experienced the same bug, this can come in the form of a duplicate bug or a bug comment
Confirmed bugs require confirmation from someone other than the original reporter
This helps ensure that the bug is applicable to Ubuntu in general, and not a problem with the reporter's system, therefore...
Please don't confirm your own bugs!

Brian, of course and I'm sorry I had to take the approach that I did. Although I think you can obviously see from how this bug was traiged that no sensible process was implemented in the first place. The only thing I changed the status for was to ensure that it didn't get terminated through routine dismissals.

I only worry now how many other bugs out there have been handled in such a fashion and how this may be affecting Ubuntu's overall quality. All the tiny workflows and use cases that actually end up defining many peoples' frustrations and first impressions of Ubuntu are probably lost like this!
