mostly i have seen that an account get offline but empathy does not remove it form the contact list when we select the offline accounts options in the view menu. see the video.i daily see this behaviour
using ubuntu 11.10

It's happening with me too, under Ubuntu 12.04 / Mint 13, on Empathy 3.4.2.3.

Not sure if this can help, but I just noticed that changing the group of an offline contact that shouldn't be appearing (caused by this bug) to another group actually makes it disappear after being moved.
This also happens if one of those contacts are added to another group. They vanish both in the new group and the old group.
